On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine celebrated the graduation of 22 anesthesia residents at the Arcadian Loft. The evening brought together faculty, staff, family, and friends to honour the achievements and dedication of this outstanding graduating class.
Vice Dean of Medical Education, Dr. Patricia Houston, opened the evening with congratulations to the graduates and formally welcomed them into the University of Toronto alumni community. Followed by Dr. Ahtsham Niazi, Vice Chair of Education, who highlighted the critical role this graduating class played in shaping the future of the program. “Your insights and feedback were invaluable in shaping a stronger, more responsive training environment,” he said. “This spirit of collaboration and innovation is a hallmark of our department, and your leadership has left a lasting impact.”
Program Director Dr. Eric You-Ten and Associate Program Director Dr. Joseph Fiorellino introduced each graduate, highlighting their individual accomplishments and career plans. They reflected on the challenges and growth experienced throughout residency, emphasizing the importance of resilience, mentorship, and self-care. “Always remember the profound impact you have as healthcare professionals,” said Dr. You-Ten, reminding the graduates. “You save lives, bring comfort to the sick, and offer solace in times of great distress. It’s a calling that cannot be expected to be easy.”
A highlight of the evening was the valedictorian address by Dr. Kennedy Hao, recipient of the Thomas Donald Hammell Memorial Award. Dr. Hao delivered an inspiring speech, offering thoughtful reflections on the shared experiences of the class and her hopes for the future.
The celebration concluded with a dinner reception, music, and photos as the department officially welcomed its newest alumni.
