Airway Fellowship (MSH)
Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH)
Mount Sinai Hospital, one of the academic hospitals of the University of Toronto, is the largest tertiary care hospital in Canada for high-risk obstetrical patients and is a centre of excellence for multiple surgical oncology specialties. It also provides care for Canada's largest program for dental surgeries for developmentally delayed patients.
Curriculum
We are seeking an exceptional individual to join the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Management at Mount Sinai Hospital for a one-year Airway Fellowship. This individual will learn and gain clinical experience in all airway techniques for a diverse patient population in high-risk obstetrics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, head and neck surgery, and dental surgery for the developmentally delayed. The airway fellowship has an active teaching curriculum in airway crisis resource management, airway ultrasound, and surgical airways using different techniques on mannequin, tissue, and hybrid models. Additionally, the fellow will be actively involved in teaching multiple airway courses and simulations and will participate in the Multidisciplinary Airway Team at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Research
The airway fellow will conduct airway research in clinical and simulation settings. Successful candidates will have one dedicated nonclinical day per week. Teaching and research are done in close collaboration with the SimSinai Simulation Centre and the Surgical Skills Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital. The fellow will have the opportunity to present their research at local, national, and international scientific meetings. The fellow will gain experience in formulating/conducting research projects, writing ethics submissions, and writing/completing a manuscript for publication.
Clinical Duties
Clinical duties include providing anesthesia care in the operating room, labour floor, ambulatory suites, and consultation clinic. Fellows will be taking 16-hour calls in both the operating rooms for emergency surgeries and on labour and delivery.
