The department encourages our teachers to take advantage of the resources and development opportunities offered at the University of Toronto to enhance their teaching and assessment skills, acquire new ones, and refresh and expand their knowledge. We also encourage teachers to visit the Centre for Faculty Development's website for additional information and resources.

The Stepping Stone Program

Stepping Stones is our foundational program at the Centre for Faculty Development (CFD). It provides support to health professionals in their multiple roles as teachers, educators, academic leaders, scholars, and advocates. This introductory level program is aligned with other CFD programming which provides more advanced content in the same areas.

The Teaching for Learning and Collaboration Program

The Teaching for Learning and Collaboration Program (TLC) is a 7 module longitudinal teaching skills program for multi-professional clinicians in healthcare. The program is relevant to the varied teaching contexts of multi-professional faculty and allows participants to share their teaching experiences and employ common teaching theory and behaviours together.

The Centre for Faculty Development

The Centre for Faculty Development (CFD) is a partnership between the University of Toronto (UofT) and St. Michael'’s Hospital (SMH) - a fully affiliated teaching hospital. The CFD is committed to enhancing the academic development of faculty in the Faculty of Medicine, additional Health Science Faculties (i.e. nursing, pharmacy, etc.) at UofT, and other institutions through innovation, capacity building and scholarship in the design, implementation and evaluation of faculty development. In addition to this commitment, the CFD welcomes anyone, regardless of whether they have a faculty appointment or not, who has a role related to teaching, education and academic work in their healthcare organization or setting.

CFD Workshops

Workshops at the CFD are devoted to the enhancement of teaching skills as well as mentoring, career development, scholarship in education and leadership. Faculty received two free sessions each academic year, but early registration is advised.

Literature

AMEE Guides cover topical issues in medical and healthcare professions education and provide information, practical advice and support.  They are designed for use by teachers individually to inform their practice and are widely used in staff development programmes.  AMEE Guides can also provide a valuable resource to inform curriculum and course committees.

Best Evidence Medical Education (BEME) Guides are published by AMEE are of interest to a range of stakeholders in the healthcare professions including teachers, curriculum developers, administrators and researchers.
