What is Faculty Development Day?
The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine's Faculty Development Day showcases faculty development-related offerings and creates opportunities for networking, learning and collaborations around faculty development in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
Faculty are invited to join us for a day of professional development and collaboration. This year's event features exciting workshops, expert speakers, and valuable networking opportunities. We have also extended an invitation for our fellows to attend. Don't miss the chance to connect with colleagues!

The Women and the Allies Academic Forum officially launches on Faculty Development Day. Join Drs. Angela Jerath and Lisa Isaac during a special breakfast session as they speak on "The Road to Success: Building a Rewarding Career in Academic Anesthesiology."

Keynote Speaker, Dr. Viren Naik MD, MEd, MBA, FRCPC
Dr. Naik is the Director of Assessment for the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. He has 20 years of experience as an educator, and oversees the credentialing of specialist training and the assessment, including examinations, for all medical specialties in Canada.
In 2001, Dr. Naik obtained a Master of Education degree from the University of Toronto, and a Fellowship in Education from The Wilson Centre for Research in Education. Following his training, Dr. Naik was recruited to St. Michael’s Hospital, where he started a Research Fellowship program in Simulation, and 3 years later, he was appointed Medical Director of the Allan Waters’ Family Patient Simulation Centre. In 2009, he was recruited from the University of Toronto to establish the University of Ottawa Skills and Simulation Centre (uOSSC) as the inaugural Medical Director. Dr. Naik has focused his career on the integration of simulation into CanMEDS for postgraduate education and continuing professional development. He has over 100 peer reviewed publications and grants, and in 2007 and 2013, Dr. Naik received honour awards from the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society for his international contributions to education.
Dr. Angela Jerath, MSc FRCPC, FANZCA, MD, BSc
Dr. Jerath is a cardiac anesthesiologist with the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and associate professor with the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine. Her academic research is focused on the analysis and evaluation of postoperative care and critical care models in cardiac and complex non-cardiac surgical patients using different research methods and technologies. Her research has received funding support from the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society (CAS), Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC), and Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR).
Dr. Jerath has helped to author over 100 published papers, and over the last couple of years has made headlines for her work into whether the sex of the surgeon can impact patient outcomes.
