What is Faculty Development Day?

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine's Faculty Development Day showcases faculty development-related offerings and creates opportunities for networking, learning and collaborations around faculty development in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.

Faculty are invited to join us for a day of professional development and collaboration. This year's event focuses on the theme of "From Support to Success: Building a Culture of Faculty Growth and Recognition" and features exciting workshops, expert speakers, and valuable networking opportunities. We have also extended an invitation for our fellows to attend. Don't miss the chance to connect with colleagues!

Will Bynum

Keynote Speaker: Dr. William Bynum, MD, PhD

Dr. Will Bynum is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine and practicing physician and medical educator at Duke University in Durham, NC. He received his M.D. at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2010 and Ph.D. in Health Professions Education at Maastricht University in the Netherlands in 2023, where defended his thesis entitled “Out of the shadows: a qualitative exploration of shame in medical learners.”

His expertise lie in medical education, physician wellness, and shame competence. As co-Founder of the Shame Lab, he studies the impact of shame in professional practice and offers training in Shame Competence. He is the author of over 30 peer-reviewed publications and has given over 150 workshops and presentations about shame to top hospitals, conferences, and organizations such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania, and the American Hospital Association. He has received numerous awards for his research including Best Paper by the AAMC Research in Medical Education Committee in 2021, a Research Award by the Association of Medical Educators of Europe (AMEE) in 2022, and Best Doctoral Report by AMEE in 2023.
