Spotlight on Innovation: Faculty Present at JAMA Roadshow

JAMA Roadshow presentation
Dr. Brian Cuthbertson presenting his research during the JAMA Roadshow visit on July 25, 2025.

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine had the opportunity to be featured at the recent Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Roadshow hosted at the University of Toronto. The event brought together leading researchers from across the university to present high-impact studies and engage directly with members of the JAMA editorial team, including Dr. Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, Editor in Chief, and Dr. Gregory Curfman, Executive Editor.

The Roadshow offered an invaluable opportunity to highlight the Department’s research and to build connections with the editors of one of the world’s most influential medical journals.

Three impactful studies were presented by our faculty:

  • Drs. Angela Jerath and Brian Cuthbertson – SedAting with Volatile Anesthetics Critically Ill COVID-19 Patients in ICU: Effects on Ventilatory Parameters and Survival (SAVE-ICU)
  • Dr. James Khan – Prevention of Persistent Pain With LidocAine iNfusions in Breast Cancer Surgery (PLAN)
  • Dr. Brian Cuthbertson – MAGNesium and Digoxin Versus AMiodarone for Fast Atrial Fibrillation in the ICU (MAGNAM Trial)

Participating in events like the JAMA Roadshow is key to advancing the Department’s research mission: enhancing the visibility of our work, fostering scholarly collaboration, and building connections that can lead to future publication and impact. We’re proud to see our faculty’s work featured and look forward to continued participation in events that support academic excellence and impact.
