Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (TGH)

This is a 6 to 12-month fellowship offered to Internists/Anesthesiologists/ Physiatrists/Rheumatologists/General Physicians and offers broad exposure in diagnosis and management of multisystemic connective tissue disorders. The Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Program at Toronto General Hospital is a unique interdisciplinary program that provides consult and treatment to a large volume of patients with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. The fellow will spend 4 days per week performing clinical duties that include outpatient and inpatient consultations, which may or may not include working in the operating room one day/week. With only one fellow accepted in the program each year, there is a unique focus on the training of this individual. There are also rotations that include 1) Transitional Pain service; 2) Dysautonomia Cardiology clinic 3) Physiatry 4) Interventional Chronic Pain program (various anesthetic blocks including fluoroscopy and ultrasound guided techniques); 5) Gastrointestinal Motility clinic 6) palliative program and 7) rehabilitation program (functional restoration program and cognitive behaviour program).
Fellows do not have call hour duties.
There are numerous research projects conducted by the faculty within the many disciplines. The fellows are expected to be involved in at least one research project during their annual rotation. They are also expected to present at least one topic during one of the educational rounds.
There are various educational programs including informal clinical teaching, formal didactic lectures and interdisciplinary educational rounds at Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Clinic and Pain Rounds in Toronto General Hospital.
