Dipen Thakrar
BSc (Hons), MD, FRCPC
Dr. Dipen Thakrar is an Anesthesiologist with experience in a variety of academic and community practice locations. Originally from Malawi, Dr. Thakrar grew up in Vancouver and obtained his undergraduate degree from Simon Fraser University, medical degree from the University of British Columbia and then moved to Ontario to finish his anesthesia residency training at the University of Toronto. He completed a fellowship in Advanced Clinical Practice at a quaternary trauma centre and currently has hospital privileges at both Lakeridge Health in Oshawa and Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, as well as major hospitals in British Columbia where he cares for both adult and pediatric patients. Dr. Thakrar has an interest in medical education, having completed the Stepping Stones program at the University of Toronto, and has received several awards for his teaching. In addition to his faculty appointment at the University of Toronto, he holds an adjunct faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor at Queen’s University.
Dr. Thakrar is the recipient of the Art Dunn Undergraduate Education Award, Unity Health Toronto (2020), Teaching Excellence Award - MD Program, University of Toronto (2019), Fitzgeral Academy Teaching Award - Clinical Skills, University of Toronto (2019).
