Marthinus van der Vyver
Dr. van der Vyver completed medical school and his anesthesia residency in Cape Town, South Africa. This was followed by an obstetrical anesthesia fellowship at Women’s College Hospital from 2000-2001. He serves as a staff anesthesiologist first at Women’s College Hospital until 2007 and since then at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
Dr. van der Vyver has been involved in administration and leadership at almost all levels of education with a special interest in continuous professional development of anesthesiologists. He served as chair of the continuing professional development (CPD)committee of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society from 2010 until 2013. He has also been a member of the CPD committee at the department level for more than ten years. Dr. van der Vyver has been the inaugural director of faculty development at departmental level since 2009.
Dr. van der Vyver has also served at the hospital level as medical director of the Acute Pain service since May 2014.
