Andrew Steel is a Consultant Physician in Critical Care Medicine and Anesthesiology at Toronto General Hospital. He is appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesia and the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.

Andrew graduated from the Medical College of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, University of London, UK and completed residency training in both General Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology in London, UK. In 2007, after finishing his Intensive Care training, he moved to Canada for a Clinical Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the University Health Network (UHN) and Mount Sinai Hospitals, Toronto. He then completed fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia and was appointed to the Department of Anesthesia and Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care as an Attending Staff in June 2009.

Andrew’s principle clinical commitment is in Critical Care – attending in the Medical-Surgical ICU and the Cardiovascular ICU at Toronto General Hospital. In 2009 he was appointed Medical Director of the Critical Care Response Team, and Fellowship Director and Education Lead for Critical Care at the University Health Network.

The University of Toronto Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine has one of the largest and most successful education programs in the World. Each year it recruits more than 60 residents and fellows to the combined residency and clinical fellowship training. In January 2015 Andrew was appointed as Program Director of the Royal College Residency and Clinical Fellowship Programs for the, University of Toronto.
