Andrew Steel

Andrew graduated from the Medical College of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, University of London, UK, and completed residency training in both General Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology in London, UK. In 2007, after finishing his Intensive Care training, he moved to Canada for a Clinical Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the University Health Network (UHN) and Mount Sinai Hospitals, Toronto. He then completed fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia and was appointed to the Department of Anesthesia and Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care as an Attending Staff in June 2009.
Andrew was an attending physician at Toronto General Hospital in the Medical-Surgical ICU and Cardiovascular ICU from 2009 until 2022. During this period, he developed expertise in the intraoperative and postoperative management of lung and liver transplant patients. In addition, he became expert in the use of ECMO for the management of severe respiratory and heart failure. Whilst at Toronto General, Andrew was Medical Director of the Critical Care Response Team, and Fellowship Director and Education Lead for Critical Care at the University Health Network.
In 2022, Andrew transferred to Toronto Western Hospital to take up the position of Medical Director of the Medical Surgical Neuro Intensive Care Unit.
