Dr. David He Appointed Resident Research Coordinator

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. David He as the new Research Coordinator of its Anesthesia Residency program. The role reports to the residency program director, assistant program director and Residency Program Committee.

He will officially begin his role on July 1, 2024.

Background

Dr. He is a physician-scientist with a blossoming career in anesthesiology and medical informatics. David obtained his MD at Queen's University before completing residency training in anesthesiology at the University of Toronto, followed by a fellowship in obstetrical anesthesia at Mount Sinai Hospital. He also has a PhD in molecular genetics with a specialization in genome biology and bioinformatics.

He currently holds a faculty position as an assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine at the University of Toronto. David is also a staff anesthesiologist at Mount Sinai Hospital and is appointed as a clinician scientist with a focus on clinical research in obstetrical anesthesia and perioperative cognitive impairment.

His unique combination of expertise allows him to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical applications. David is an outstanding teacher and recently received a staff teaching award from the current cohort of anesthesia residents in recognition of his excellence as an educator.

Plans for the role

Dr. He hopes to foster a culture of mentorship and collaboration as he helps residents achieve their research goals.

Speaking on the appointment, he said, “I was particularly drawn to this role because of the opportunity it presents to shape the future of anesthesia research through strategic planning and program development.

“I am eager to collaborate with the department to promote excellence in research training, facilitate knowledge translation activities, and recognize and reward outstanding research contributions.”

Recognizing Dr. Dallas Duncan

The department also recognizes the outstanding contributions of Dr. Dallas Duncan, the inaugural resident research coordinator. During his tenure, his passion for research, commitment to excellence in research training, and desire to lead the development of a sustainable research program for anesthesia residents were evident. Additionally, he supported the Anesthesia Residency Program as Chair of the Resident Research Committee and provided mentorship and coaching to residents, further showcasing his dedication to advancing research and education within the department.
