The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine is thrilled to announce that Drs. Sean Leung and Jessica Nguyen have been named anesthesia residency co-chiefs for the upcoming academic year. Sean and Jessica bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to their new roles, and their collaborative approach promises an exciting year for the residency program.

Speaking about their plans for their tenure, Sean and Jessica emphasized the importance of fostering a supportive and connected resident community.

"Our program is full of spectacular people," they shared. "Our first goal is to create spaces that promote inter-year connections. After all, there is no better support network than those going through this challenging residency with you."

This commitment extends to ensuring a positive experience across all training sites within the program. "We aim to work with site chiefs across the city to optimize resident experiences.”

As co-chiefs, Sean and Jessica also see themselves as crucial links between residents and the program's administration. "We want to make ourselves an accessible and approachable point-of-contact that can collect and amplify resident voices at the administrative level."

In recognition of the complex and ever-changing nature of the residency program, Sean and Jessica also plan to introduce a resident-focused newsletter. "This newsletter will serve as a one-stop information platform for updates in the program."

When reflecting on their appointments, Sean and Jessica expressed a mixture of excitement and determination. "We were both very excited when we found out the news! It was special to celebrate with our co-residents that same day at the end-of-year bash. We can only hope to make our fellow residents feel as supported as we did by their warm cheers that night. Being co-chiefs is a big task, but we'll do our best to represent the resident body. We are looking forward to a fun year ahead."
