Introducing our new Wellness and Curriculum Coordinators

Dr. Alia Busuttil and Dr. Arun Prasad

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine is excited to announce the appointment of two faculty members to leadership roles within the Anesthesia Residency Program.

Dr. Alia Busuttil will take on the position of Wellness Coordinator and Dr. Arun Prasad will become the program's Curriculum Coordinator.

We believe Drs. Busuttil and Prasad's exceptional expertise and passion will make them welcome additions to our team and help drive continued positive change within our community.

Wellness Coordinator, Dr. Alia Busuttil

As Wellness Coordinator, Dr. Busuttil aims to lead a culture of wellness within the anesthesia residency program, focusing on awareness, education, advocacy, and coaching. She also hopes to empower residents to learn how to adapt to their environment and cultivate their resilience and well being.

A graduate of Queen's University's MD Program and the University of Toronto's Anesthesia Residency Program, Dr. Busuttil possesses unique insights into the challenges faced by trainees.

An advocate for lifelong learning, Dr. Busuttil brings a contagious enthusiasm and a genuine desire to help individuals live healthier, more balanced lives. In the role, she will help to foster a diverse, inclusive, and fair medical culture where the psychological, physical, and learners' social well being of learners is supported.

Curriculum Coordinator, Dr. Arun Prasad

As Curriculum Coordinator, Dr. Arun Prasad aims to create an optimal learning environment to benefit all adult learners by incorporating the latest in curriculum and teaching methods into the anesthesia residency program's curriculum.

Dr. Prasad has been an active clinician educator at Toronto Western Hospital (TWH) for the last 14 years and has seen the program’s growth in size and intensity. During that time, he has been responsible for the coordination of resident responsibilities at TWH as a regional anesthesia resident site coordinator, leading the PGME’s half-day workshops for the residents for hands-on training in regional anesthesia. He was also the inaugural director and program lead for the Ambulatory-Regional Anesthesia fellowship program from 2011 to 2019 at the Women’s College Hospital, and was a key member in developing and implementing the program’s curriculum in that role.

As curriculum coordinator, he will collaborate closely with trainees and faculty to enhance the existing curriculum and ensure that trainees receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for success.
