The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine is pleased to announce that Drs. Christopher Hudson and Sophia Wong have been appointed to the Anesthesiology Examination Board of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. They were selected to serve a two-year term on the board.
Dr. Christopher Hudson has nearly two decades of experience in anesthesia resident education. He has been a resident site coordinator at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the Toronto General Hospital. In 2014, he was appointed associate program director at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. Throughout his career, Dr. Hudson has been actively involved in various educational initiatives, such as OSCEs, written and oral examinations, and simulation curriculum. Since coming to UofT, he has also contributed to departmental committees, taken on challenging resident groups, and volunteered for various educational roles. Dr. Hudson also holds advanced degrees in public health and medical education. He is excited to lend his talents to the board.
Dr. Sophia Wong has also played a crucial role in medical education. Notably, she has helped train medical trainees at all levels and allied health professionals for the duration of her career. For eight years, she led UofT’s PGY5 senior tutorial session, helping to prepare residents for the Royal College examinations. Because of her efforts, Dr. Wong has consistently received teaching awards and positive evaluations for her teaching. In addition to her academic interests, she has also worked as an Investigating Coroner of Ontario since 2007. She is eager to bring her wealth of knowledge and expertise to the examination process with the aim of positively impacting standards of care.
As board members, they will participate in annual structured oral examinations, including creating four multiple-choice questions and one oral scenario per exam cycle, editing oral scenarios, and abiding by the code of conduct for examiners.
Following the selection, Dr. Beverley Orser, department chair, congratulated the pair, noting that they bring a wealth of expertise to the roles.
“They will play a crucial role in shaping anesthesia education and ensuring the highest standards of excellence. Their appointment is a recognition of their outstanding contributions to our department as well as their commitment to the continued advancement of anesthesiology.”
The department extends its heartfelt congratulations to Drs. Hudson and Wong on this significant achievement. Please join us in wishing them every success in the position.
