Dr Vincent Chan Named Director of Faculty Development
The Department of Anesthesia would like to announce the appointment of Dr. Vincent Chan to the role of Director, Faculty Development, effective May 1, 2016.
Dr. Chan is a highly accomplished clinician, researcher and educator. He is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesia, and is recognized as an international leader in the fields of regional anesthesia and pain medicine. Noteworthy achievements include Gold Medal Award by the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society in 2009, President of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) from 2009 to 2011; FRCA Fellowship by Election by the Royal College of Anaesthetists (UK) in 2011, Teaching Recognition Award for Achievement in Education by the International Anesthesia Research Society in 2013; Distinguished Service Award from European Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Therapy in 2013 and Gaston Labat Award from ASRA in 2016. Most recently, Dr. Chan was awarded the Colin Woolf Award for Long-Term Contributions to continuing education (University of Toronto, 2016).
As Director of Faculty Development, Dr. Chan is responsible for all aspects of faculty development and orientation in the department. This role also ensures capacity-building, innovation and scholarship in the development, implementation and evaluation of faculty development activities, and ongoing faculty development activities designed to assist faculty in their roles as teachers and educators.
