We are excited to welcome Dr. Ronald George to the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Management at Mount Sinai Hospital, Sinai Health System.
Dr. George has been recruited as the new Head of Obstetrical Anesthesia, taking over from Dr. Jose Carvalho who served as the Head of Obstetrical Anesthesia over the past two decades. Dr. Carvalho mentored over 100 obstetric anesthesia fellows, who have moved onto positions in leadership, teaching & research around the world. He has also been responsible for innovations in the hospital's clinical services including the introduction of Patient Intermittent Epidural Bolus delivery systems for patients in labor receiving epidural analgesia, and anesthesia protocols for unique surgical procedures, such as the fetal myelomeningocele EXIT repair. Mount Sinai Hospital's reputation as an international leader in Obstetric Anesthesia is due, in large part, to the academic efforts of Dr. Carvalho.
Dr. Ronald George is from Nova Scotia and spent more than 15 years with the Dalhousie University Department of Anesthesia, Pain Management, and Perioperative Medicine. He most recently served as Chief and Professor of Obstetric Anesthesia with the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at the University of California San Francisco. He completed a research/clinical fellowship in Women’s & Obstetric Anesthesia at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. He was a Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society Career Scientist Award recipient aimed at enhancing analgesia and anesthesia for women and high-risk pregnancies. His research areas are cesarean recovery and patient centred labor analgesia. He plays an active role in the #OBAnes global community. He currently is a member WFSA Obstetric Anesthesia Committee and the Secretary for the Society of Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology.
