The Department of Anesthesia is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Clyde Matava to the new role of Director, eLearning and Technology Innovations effective May 1, 2016.
Dr. Clyde Matava is a graduate of the College of Medicine, University of Zimbabwe. He has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesia since 2011 and is a staff member at Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Matava has been actively involved in medical education across the continuum from undergraduate medical education to faculty development. Recently, he led the development and implementation of online interactive eLearning modules for the new anesthesia flipped clerkship at the University of Toronto as well as other apps and eLearning resources. Dr. Matava has won several teaching awards including the 2014 Department of Anesthesia, University of Toronto Dr. John Desmond award for Undergraduate Education, the inaugural New Faculty Teaching Excellence Award in 2012. He is currently the Director of Innovation, Informatics and Technology in the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, Hospital for Sick Children, and serves on various committees and boards including the Canadian Pediatric Anesthesia Society.
As Director, Dr. Matava will provide leadership, vision, scope, advocacy and hands-on administration and implementation of a variety of e-learning and educational technology initiatives to support teaching and learning in the Department of Anesthesia, University of Toronto. He is committed to the continuous improvement and design of educational technologies to support clinical educational delivery, faculty development and education-related activities and scholarship along the continuum of medical education in the UofT Department of Anesthesia.
