Highlights
Dean Trevor Young delivered the opening remarks, making mention of the rigorous work done by our faculty and trainees in the advancement of medical science.
Dr. Steven Shafer delivered a thought-provoking keynote address on "The Problem with P Brains," helping us distinguish likely truth from likely fiction in science.
Drs. Hannah Wunsch and Kat Butler also delivered excellent and thought-provoking presentations. Dr. Wunsch’s book, The Autumn Ghost: How the Battle Against a Polio Epidemic Revolutionized Modern Medical Care is now available. For those interested, she has provided these links as options to purchase and thanks you for your support.
We enjoyed 18 outstanding oral presentations and 18 poster presentations by our emerging scholars. This year, 21 poster presentations were selected, although three presenters were not able to attend. The department will continue to find ways for more poster presenters to share their work at future Shields Research Days.
Dr. Roland Xu was the inaugural recipient of the Dr. Arthur Scott Award of Excellence in Anesthesia and Critical Care.
