2022 CAS Award Recipients

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine would like to congratulate our talented faculty and trainees who received awards and honours at the 2022 CAS meeting. The meeting was held in June in Halifax, Nova Scotia. To learn more about the awards, please visit the CAS 2022 website.

Congratulations to our exceptional awardees:

  • Dr. Philip Peng received the Gold Medal Award - The Gold Medal is the highest award of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society. It is an inscribed medal given in recognition of excellence in a career in service to anesthesiology.
  • Dr. Natalie Clavel received the John Bradley Young Educator Award - Awarded to a CAS member who recognizes excellence and effectiveness in education in anesthesia.  
  • Dr. Doreen Yee received the CAS Outstanding Volunteer Award - Awarded to a CAS member who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the Society and has helped improve its image as a volunteer.
  • Dr. Tariq Esmail- Ian White Patient Safety Award
  • Dr. Clyde Matava - Richard Knill Competition
  • Dr. Sabine Nabecker - Best Abstract in Education and Simulation in Anesthesia
  • Dr. Paula Perez - Best Abstract in Perioperative Medicine
  • Dr. Natalia Portela - Best Abstract in Obstetrical Anesthesia
  • Dr. Chenchen Tian - 1st Place Residents' Oral Competition
  • Dr. Maggie Z.X Xiao - Best Abstract in Chronic Pain
  • Dr. Kazuyoshi Aoyama - CAS Research Award
  • Dr. John Peel - CAS Resident's Research Grant
  • Dr. Michael Skalr - Dr. Earl Wynands Research Award
