From 1999 to 2013, Dr. Crawford served as Director of Research in the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at SickKids. In 2009, he became the Anesthesiologist-in-Chief, a position he held until 2020. The same year, he founded the Canadian Pediatric Anesthesia Chiefs’ Forum, a national leadership forum for pediatric anesthesia, which he chaired for three years. As Anesthesiologist-in-Chief, Dr. Crawford helped advance his department through several initiatives, including the creation of two endowed chairs in anesthesia and pain medicine, the expansion of research productivity, the formation of a division of cardiac anesthesia and a procedural sedation service, and the development of advanced fellowship programs in pediatric pain and cardiac anesthesia. Dr. Crawford’s research focuses on the pharmacology of anesthetic agents and the effects of the perioperative period on postoperative behavioral and cognitive outcomes in children. He has served on the editorial boards of his specialty’s journals and has published 90 peer-reviewed publications.
