Dr. McKnight graduated from medicine from University of Toronto in 1975, then trained there in anesthesiology and has practised at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto since 1980. He is currently professor and vice-chair of education in the Department of Anesthesia. From 2007 to 2015, he was associate dean, equity & professionalism in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

He has had a long standing interest in ethics and completed the master’s degree in health sciences in bioethics at the Joint Centre for Bioethics of U of T in 2006. He has chaired the ethics committees of both the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
