2023-2024 Teaching and Clinical Excellence Awards

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine is delighted to announce the call for nominations for the 20232-2024 Teaching and Clinical Excellence Awards.

NOTE: You will need to complete a new entry form to nominate more than one faculty member for the same award. You will not be able to nominate the same faculty member for multiple teaching awards.

Award recipients will be announced at the 45th Annual Shields Research Day on Friday, May 3, 2024, as we celebrate and acknowledge our educators and investigators.

THE NOMINATION PROCESS

The nomination criteria is explained in the submission portal; please review in detail before starting your nomination submission.

NOTE: You will need to complete a new entry form to nominate more than one faculty member for the same award. You will not be able to nominate the same faculty member for multiple teaching awards.

The nomination package for each teaching award must include: 

  • A single nomination letter signed by another faculty or trainee. The letter should include evidence of achievement in research or educational innovation
  • Copies of teaching evaluations from the past three years (will be retrieved by our office)
  • A copy of the candidate's Curriculum Vitae

2024 Trainee Awards

We are pleased to invite you to apply for the 2024 Trainee Awards. We will announce the recipients at the 45th Annual Shields Research Day on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Available awards:

Dr. Alan K. Laws Travel Award - This award helps residents and fellows further their academic interests while training at the University of Toronto. It provides funds for travel expenses to other university sites to take courses, see innovative educational programs, or work with educators/researchers in related areas.

Dr. Alan W. Conn Graduate Award - provides support to a graduate student in a Master's or Ph.D. degree program (such as epidemiology, pharmacology, physiology) in association with the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine (ie. the Supervisor is an appointed faculty member in the department). The preference will be given to the individual that demonstrates a dedication to a career in academia.  

Dr. Arthur Scott Award of Excellence in Anesthesia and Critical Care - We are pleased to announce the creation of the Arthur Scott Medical Education Resident Leadership Award, established in honour of Dr. Arthur Scott. Dr. Scott served as the former Chair of the then Department of Anesthesia, University of Toronto (1977-87). This award will acknowledge one resident each year who is registered in the Department and exhibits exceptional leadership qualities. The award aims to help the awardee contribute to medical education through their teaching, mentoring, curriculum development, and program improvement. The funds can be used to offset travel expenses and registration fees related to education courses, conferences, and activities that enhance their leadership and innovation abilities.
