Dr. Gregory Silverman is an anesthesiologist at Mount Sinai Hospital and Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Toronto. He has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to medical education, having taught undergraduate and postgraduate learners for over a decade. Internationally, he co-founded the Ethiopia-Canada anesthesia education partnership, which helped support and advance the country’s first anesthesia residency program and dramatically expanded its physician anesthesiologist workforce. Dr. Silverman has also developed and delivered global health curriculum through the University of Toronto and the Canadian Anesthesiologists Society International Education Foundation, with a particular interest in perioperative care in resource-limited and austere environments.
In parallel with his academic work, Dr. Silverman currently serves as a medical specialist officer and anesthesia consultant with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) as part of 1 Canadian Field Hospital. He helped formalize a clinical training partnership between Mount Sinai Hospital and the CAF, enabling military medical personnel to acquire and maintain new skills, knowledge and experience in perioperative care. He regularly serves as an instructor for military medicine courses, focusing on trauma resuscitation, airway management, and vascular access. His research includes leading the introduction of the MOVES-SLC portable ventilator and MADM mobile anesthesia delivery system into a civilian hospital setting to enable training of military healthcare personnel and first responders, enhancing both operational readiness and cross-sector innovation.
