The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine is pleased to announce that Drs. Steven Alchi and Maggie Li will serve as Co‑Chief Residents for 2026. “We are both honoured to step into the role of chief and be able to represent the amazing group of residents that make up the Toronto Anesthesia program,” they said, underscoring their commitment to serving their peers.

As incoming co‑chiefs, Maggie and Steven are focused on shaping the resident experience academically, socially, and in terms of day-to-day wellbeing. They plan to review the Academic Half Day curriculum to ensure it is practical, engaging, and closely aligned with Royal College exam topics, while improving access to learning resources and mentorship for residents at every stage of training. For the transition to post-residency, they also envision integrating structured regional anesthesia review sessions into the curriculum.

They are particularly excited about fostering community and strengthening connections across all years of residency. Over the past three years, they have seen how residents thrive when cohorts support one another, and they want to continue the work of previous co‑chiefs in promoting a sense of belonging. From orientation to the end-of-year social, they hope to create experiences that unite the program and encourage peer support at every stage of training. “First and foremost, we are excited to build stronger connections within the resident community,” they added.

Maggie and Steven also plan to advocate for residents and ensure their voices are heard. They will listen to concerns, implement initiatives that enhance training and wellbeing, and continue popular programs such as the clothing sale, sports day, and end-of-year social. “We are both so excited to work alongside all of you and help make our program an even stronger, more connected, and more supportive place to train,” they said, reflecting their enthusiasm for both leadership and community-building.

Please join us in congratulating Drs. Alchi and Li on their appointment as Co‑Chief Residents. Their leadership, dedication, and vision promise an exciting year ahead for all residents.
