Dr. Vincent Chan: Carl Koller Award (ESRA)

Dr. Vincent Chan received the Carl Koller Award from the European Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Therapy on September 7, 2016 in recognition of his outstanding lifetime contributions to the field of Regional Anaesthesia and/or Pain Medicine.  During his acceptance speech, he thanked his colleagues, Chiefs and Chair at University of Toronto for their academic support over the years.  He is the second Canadian anesthesiologist to receive this prestigious award from the society.

Dr. Chan is an accomplished clinician, researcher and educator. He is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesia, and is recognized as an international leader in the fields of regional anesthesia and pain medicine. Noteworthy achievements include Gold Medal Award by the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society in 2009, President of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) from 2009 to 2011; FRCA Fellowship by Election by the Royal College of Anaesthetists (UK) in 2011, Teaching Recognition Award for Achievement in Education by the International Anesthesia Research Society in 2013; Distinguished Service Award from European Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Therapy in  2013 and Gaston Labat Award from ASRA in 2016. Most recently, Dr. Chan was awarded the Colin Woolf Award for Long-Term Contributions to continuing education (University of Toronto, 2016).
