Announcement: Vice Chair, Education

The Department of Anesthesia, University of Toronto, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Mark Levine as interim Vice-Chair Education. Dr. Levine replaces Dr. David McKnight who has completed a six-year term as Vice-Chair Education.

Dr. Levine is Associate Professor of Anesthesia and Associate Chief of Anesthesia at the Hospital for Sick Children, and he brings a strong background in medical education and administration to the role. Mark was an exemplary director of the department’s residency program and completed two terms in that role. His time there was characterized by curriculum reform and exemplary standards recognized at program accreditation.

We also take this opportunity to thank David McKnight for his outstanding contributions. David, a Professor in the Department of Anesthesia, and senior contributor to education in anesthesia on a national level, was previously Associate Dean, Equity & Professionalism. Also an important contributor in medical ethics, David was recognized by the Canadian Medical Association with the Dr. William Marsden Award in Medical Ethics (2013), and for services to the profession he was awarded the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society Gold Medal (2014) – the society’s highest honour.

Dr. Levine will serve from January – July, 2017.
